Commanding Officer, Logistics Operations School
Lieutenant Colonel Russell A. Hill
Lieutenant Colonel Russell A. Hill enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves out of Winchester, Kansas in May of 2006 as an Ammunition Technician. He served two years as a Reserve Marine with General Support Ammunition Platoon within the 4th Marine Logistics Group in Topeka, Kansas while he attended Emporia State University. After earning his degree in Business Administration, he attended Officer Candidate School and commissioned in March of 2008.
Lieutenant Hill's first assignment was in February of 2009 with 1st Marine Division, where he executed duties as a Motor Transport Platoon Commander and Battalion Logistics Officer for 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion and later as the Assistant Logistics Officer for 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion. He deployed with 1st LAR to Helmand Province in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and also deployed to Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras as the Company Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Headquarters and Support Company.
In June of 2012, Captain Hill reported to Marine Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, where he served as the Officer in Charge of Motor Vehicle Operators' Course for 2 years and then as the Headquarters Company Commander and Director of Support for the Detachment. Following this assignment, Captain Hill graduated from the U.S. Army's Logistics Captain's Career Course at Army Logistics University in Virginia.
In October of 2016, Captain Hill reported to 3d Transportation Support Battalion in Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Company Commander of Motor Transport Company and deployed twice for exercises in South Korea. After his promotion to Major in February of 2018, he deployed to Darwin, Australia as the Logistics Officer of the Command Element for Marine Rotational Force-Darwin.
Major Hill took command of Recruiting Station Kansas City in December of 2018 and led the unit to successful attainment of assigned missions. Following recruiting duty, he attended the Army's Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kansas, where he earned a Master's Degree in Operational Studies and graduated in the top 10% of the class.
In July of 2022, Major Hill was assigned to 2d Marine Logistics Group where he served 10 months as the Operations Officer of Combat Logistics Battalion 6 and following his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, served as the Executive Officer of Combat Logistics Regiment 27.
In July of 2024, LtCol Hill assumed his current duties as the Commanding Officer of Logistics Operations School.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (x2), the Navy Commendation Medal (x3), the Army Commendation Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
