Who is the Chaplain? 
The chaplain is an ordained clergy person (minister, priest, rabbi or imam) who is on active duty to serve Marines, Sailors and their families by providing worship opportunities, counseling and ensuring spiritual needs are met.  The chaplain is a Staff Officer to the Commanding Officer.

What does the Chaplain do? 
·   Conducts worship and provide sacramental rites in his/her own religious tradition.
·   Facilitates religious opportunities for all faith groups.
·   Provides confidential counseling.
·   Conducts training on relative subjects.
·   Visits ill and wounded Marines and Sailors.
·   Provides community outreach opportunities.
·   Advises the Command on issues of morale and well-being.

Chaplain Noles graduated in May 2000 from Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Studies and an Associate of Science degree in Computer Information Systems. He served as a bi-vocational pastor in Topsham, Maine from 2002-2004, then as full-time district pastor of six churches from 2004-2008. He graduated from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan with a Master of Divinity degree in May 2011. He was ordained as a minister in August 2011 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and is endorsed by Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries.

 Chaplain Noles previously served in the U.S. Navy from December 1987 to May 2000. He graduated from Basic Training, Nuclear Field “A” School, Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida (1987-1988) and the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Idaho Falls, Idaho (1988). He served as a Reactor Operator and Electronics Technician aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) from 1990-1995, completing an “Around the Horn” South American cruise (1990) and two deployments to the Western Pacific during Operation Desert Storm (1991, 1993). Chaplain Noles transferred to the Personnelman rating in 1995 and reported to Personnel Support Detachment, Naval Air Station, Brunswick, where he served until being honorably discharged in May 2000 with the rank of E-6.

 Chaplain Noles was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy Chaplain Candidate Program in August 2010, and completed Officer Development School, Newport, Rhode Island, and Professional Naval Chaplaincy – Basic Course (Phases 1-3), Fort Jackson, South Carolina from May – August 2011. His initial duty assignment was with Combat Logistics Battalion 26 and 2D Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, from November 2011  to October 2012. He currently serves as Chaplain for the Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools (MCCSSS), Camp Johnson, NC.

 His decorations and awards include: Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), Letter of Commendation from Commander, Carrier Group Three, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Battle “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (three awards), National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (Desert Storm), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (two awards), and Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait). He also became a Trusty Shellback in October 1990.
